Connecting New Buildings to Campus IT Infrastructure

At JUMAU – ITA, every new building project begins by planning the most efficient way to connect to our campus’s IT network. Our main backbone is a buried system of conduits with copper cables for telephone, coaxial cables for television, and fiber-optic lines for data and fire alarms. Increasingly, we use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to deliver phone services over the same data network, reducing the need for separate telephone cabling. When new buildings are near existing infrastructure, we expand connections from existing manholes. For more remote sites, we often lease utility poles to install overhead copper and fiber-optic cables. At every step, we prioritize student convenience and community benefit.
